One idea, seventy years apart.

Premium Bonds,
on-chain.

Since 1956, the UK's Premium Bonds have run on one elegant idea: your capital is never the prize money — the interest is. Over 22 million people hold more than £128 billion of them. Ticket4Life runs on the same principle, rebuilt as fund management on a public blockchain: mint one ticket, and the treasury's real yield — never your ticket — is distributed by a draw every Sunday, for as long as the protocol runs. This page compares the two honestly, advantages and all.

The mechanism both share — payouts from yield, never from capital

How Premium Bonds do it

Instead of paying you interest, NS&I pools the interest of all bondholders into a monthly prize fund — an annualised 3.80% of the total held, at the July 2026 rate — and selects the recipients at random, from £25 up to two £1 million top prizes a month. Your £1 Bonds keep their face value forever and can be withdrawn anytime. The trade-off: each £1 Bond receives nothing 21,999 times out of 22,000 in a given month, and the headline rate is a mean skewed by the top prizes — a typical holder earns less, as UK money sites have long shown.

How Ticket4Life does it

Mint proceeds capitalize an on-chain treasury that we manage as a fund, and its grid-trading engine funds the payouts: 80% of the yield it earns in a week goes into the Sunday distribution pool — in a flat or losing week the pool can be small or zero — and up to 13 tickets are paid from it, 50 / 25 / 10 to the first three tiers, 15% shared among ten more. The ticket itself is an NFT you keep: resell it peer-to-peer, or — after a one-time 90-day cooldown — sell it back to the protocol at a treasury-backed price, capped at 80% of mint, through a buyback facility (conditional — open and funded status is shown live). Randomness comes from Pyth Entropy and every draw is verifiable.

The honest verdict, both ways

Where Premium Bonds are stronger

Safety, plainly: a 100% HM Treasury guarantee with no cap, seventy years of track record, tax-free prizes and £1 million top prizes. If you are a UK saver and capital protection is everything, Premium Bonds are the benchmark — that is exactly why we compare against them and not the other way around.

Where the on-chain version is stronger

Cadence and openness: one purchase is entered weekly instead of monthly per £1, and 13 tickets are selected in every draw that runs — with 42 tickets entered today, a single ticket is selected on roughly 31% of Sundays, a probability that falls as more tickets are minted, and payouts that can be small while the pool is small. No residency requirement (where local law permits), and the draws and payouts sit on a public chain rather than on faith. One beta honesty note: the protocol's own tickets are entered too, and their payouts return to the treasury — each such draw is labeled on the history page.

The real difference is what backs it.

NS&I gives you a state guarantee and asks you to trust its process. Ticket4Life gives you no guarantee and asks you to verify its process. They are not substitutes — one is capital-protected savings, the other a high-risk crypto protocol — and which trade you prefer is a personal decision. Make it with open eyes.
